Normally, programs written for use under Japanese MS Windows will not work under the English version. A file called WINNLS.DLL is required in many cases. Other files may be required too, but this appears to work for many programs (such as those listed in my CD-rom section). To get yourself a copy, visit Otakuworld, particularly their utils page.
If you also wish to view Japanese characters correctly, you also need some Japanese character support. For Win95, you can download a program called NJWin from http://www.njstar.com/ This program works with most Windows programs to allow you to view Japanese text.
Note that there is an add-on for Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 3 or above which allows Japanese characters to be displayed when web browsing. Get it from Microsoft's web page. Look under international support. Once installed, it apparently also works in Netscape.
There is now also an addition for Internet Explorer 4 which lets you enter Japanese characters into IE4 and Outlook Express. Now you can search in Japanese at www.goo.ne.jp. This is also found in Microsoft's web pages.
